Dear Sir,
Two articles in your May issue indicate that massive treatment for schistosomiasis is regarded as giving evidence of being safe and sure though so far no mention has been made in post mortem reports of those who have died during the lightning “cure” of dying worms in the pulmonary system where they occur in sheep given heavy doses of tartar emetic. Surely in Schistosomiasis japonicum the liver substance is too impaired to stand more than carefully regulated and filtered doses, preferably of a potassium or lithium salt rather than a sodium compound, and the system encouraged to deal slowly and effectively with the adult worms rather than be subjected to a known hepatic irritant of one of our best hepatic stimulants.
