The First Edition of this work was reviewed in this Journal, in 1933, and at that time the present reviewer said:

“In this work Dr. Major has contributed one of the most valuable monographs to the profession from the standpoint of medical history and for reference purposes. Time and again, the reviewer has been asked by medical students where they could find the original descriptions of some of the diseases they were studying, and it is in this work that the answer to such questions will be found. To have available such a collection of original descriptions of disease is most valuable to the teacher of medicine and surgery as well as to all interested in the genesis of our medical knowledge and the author has, in this respect, supplied the profession with one of the most remarkable and valuable historical monographs that has appeared in recent years.”
