Summary

Body lice from Wad Medani in the Sudan Republic, tested with the World Health Organization kit, showed an LC50 of 2.4% for DDT and 1.15% for BHC. These values indicate, respectively, an 8- and 12-fold increase since 1954 in the tolerance to these insecticides; resistance to either insecticide was 25 times that of normal strains of lice. Susceptibility of the lice to pyrethrins was normal.
